BEECH POWER on the Youth Green Conference

In October 2019, BEECH POWER was presented to approx. 60 young kids during the Youth Green Conference. The Austrian-Ukrainian Youth Green Conference was developed and organised jointly by the European Wilderness Society, partner in the BEECH POWER project and FORZA, Agency for Sustainable Development of the Carpathian Region from Ukraine. The project was financially supported by the Erasmus + Programme.

The Youth Green Conference brought together school kids from Austria and Ukraine to discuss several key topics for today’s young generation, including ways of sustainable transport, the environment and the importance of wildlife.

The young generation usually doesn’t have the chance to hear about transnational projects and EU funding instruments for nature conservation. During the conference, BEECH POWER was presented to 60 kids as a prime example of how countries that have so many cultural differences can unite for a common cause: World Heritage beech forests. The kids had the chance to hear about World Heritage nomination, the history of beech forests in Europe and why it is important to preserve these natural values. During a forest workshop, organised by FORZA, they also learned simple hints of dendrochronology.
